Hello!

Welcome to Written by a Woman... I am so glad you're here!

I am not sure how to do this other than to treat it like it's the first day of class and we are going around the room to introduce ourselves...

My name is Olivia, I am 22 years old, and for all 22 of those years I have been obsessed with books. That is an exaggeration but, it's not too far off. To start, let me throw some fast facts at you. I am a middle child with an older brother and a younger sister, and yes, I do in fact suffer from classic eldest daughter syndrome. Despite my best efforts to rebel during my teen years, I adore my parents and spend most of my time sitting at home with them, coloring like an elderly woman. I am 100% obsessed with my Blue Heeler puppy Harper and speak to her like she can completely understand every word I say to her. The jury is still out, but I swear she shows real human emotion on her face. My friends are truly some of the most important things in my life, I feel incredibly blessed to have found the people I can laugh, cry, dance in the living room, scream sing in the car, or sit in silence with. Anway, I feel like I just gave an Eloise at the Plaza, opening of her movie, style monologue.

All I wanted to do from a very early age was read, and before I could read, I was always asking other people to read to me. I have gone through every reading phase under the sun, from the classic YA Dystopian fangirl era to the only reading classics because you think it makes you "different" era. Spoiler Alert: it does not make you different, the classics are just good, and everyone should try them out. Overall, reading has changed my life, and makes up a good 70% of my personality. My love for reading has inspired my hobbies, my friendships, my choice of major, and my future career (hopefully working in publishing, everyone plz cross their fingers for me).

I graduated in the spring of 2023, with my BA in English and Creative Writing. College truly made me the woman I am today. Now I am not only a bookish girl, but I am a bookish girl who can critically analyze literature at a collegiate level. That is essentially what inspired me to start this blog, the realization that I loved writing about books. Having a blog always sounded so fun to me, I had no idea where to start, but people say to start with what you know. And there is nothing I know better than books. So, I thought why not take all the knowledge I shoved into my brain during college and use it to write about books that I actually like reading, rather than some of the snoozers I had on class required reading lists.

So, to quote Lizzie Maguire in that one clip, "Well that's my life! Thank you so much for spending time with me. I hope you enjoyed it, cause I know I did."
